Procurement Services Study Series (Part 6) – Strategy Consultancy Market Details and 4 Vendor Profiles

This part of the Spend Matters PRO research series “Report on the Landscape of the Provisioning Services Market and Phone bookContinues our analysis of six procurement services market groups that we have described:

  • Source-to-pay implementation providers
  • Regional councils
  • Managed Service Providers (MSP)
  • Strategy advice
  • Global Councils (including the “Big 5”)
  • BPO providers

The first part highlighted the study results and 34 vendors that we are initially profiling (check out our service provider directory to learn more about vendors and view PDF profiles). Part 2 details how procurement professionals can use this information and provides more information on the six market segments listed above and the suppliers in those segments. Parts 3, 4 and 5 looked at the first three segments: S2P consulting firms, regional consulting firms and Managed Service Providers (MSPs).

In this article, we will focus on strategy consultants who offer procurement services. There’s a reason we focus on the thin air from top strategy firms like McKinsey, BCG and Bain (and Alix Partners to a lesser extent) rather than any large global consulting firm. who has a practice of strategy as well as a train. These companies are not hampered by formal partnerships with vendors, and they also have influence at the CEO level, so they, more than anyone, should be able to develop a strategically oriented sourcing service business. .

However, this is not always the case, and these companies (and others) are actually a bit of a canary in a coal mine for the procurement organizations themselves to learn about investing, digital, knowledge management, ecosystems and, of course, strategy!

There is a lot to learn from here, both for practitioners and also for other procurement consultancies, so let’s dig in.
