After college, Ron returned to the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York and the community there continued to inspire his artistic ambitions. Shortly after moving back to town, Ron created a poster for the 2006 Lake Placid Film Festival, which had publicly released a call for submissions. This is one of Ron’s early posters, and he took a minimalist, direct approach with the work.
Acclaimed author Russell Banks co-founded the festival and the writer, a major cultural figure, has succeeded in bringing major players in the film industry to the Adirondacks for the festival. The festival has focused on the history, evolution, and future of film; actors and directors such as Robert Downey and Martin Scorsese have attended the event. Like the town, the Lake Placid Film Festival fosters a sense of community. Participants are able to discuss their careers, aspirations, and problems with experienced members of the industry.
Ron believes that events like the Lake Placid Film Festival are a major part of why life in Lake Placid is so appealing. He hopes to contribute to an art scholarship for students from Lake Placid by the end of 2011 with sales generated by his biography, Obey Your Designer.
